Kirkland man charged with child sex assault

SYCAMORE – A 52-year-old Kirkland man is in DeKalb County Jail on two warrants totaling $1 million after police say he had sexual contact with two children younger than 13 years old.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office arrested Roberto Silva, of the 1400 block of Kennedy Drive, without incident about 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Silva is charged with two counts of predatory criminal sex assault of a child. If convicted, he could face six to 30 years in prison.

Sheriff Roger Scott said the Kirkland Police Department received a tip from family members of one of the victims and opened an investigation in February, and that his department joined the investigation in March.

As a result of the investigation, another child younger than 13 came forward to allege sexual contact with Silva.

Scott said those are the only two victims the departments are aware of, and that the Department of Children and Family Services and DeKalb County Child Advocacy Center also assisted.

Silva will be in court Wednesday, where his bond will be reviewed and set.
